HAve a few mods I want to do...questions

Hey guys.

I own a Dodge Intrepid, and I've done a LOT of mods to it. Ive added heated/leather/memory seats from the 300M Special (same LH platform) and also swapped over all the wiring in the car to that of a 2002 Special to get the Infinity Sound System, the antennae delete, automatic climate control, and even completely swapped my dash to a 300M Special dash just for the looks and the better material quality. Added a leather steering wheel, etc etc etc

My question is if there is any such upgrades available for the Civic we just got.

Its a 2005 Honda Civic EX Coupe. It currently has manual climate control, cloth seats, and the sunroof. Had the premium sound system, but the headunit has been changed out by the previous owner (probably going to switch to the Kenwood KDC-X595 like I have in the Intrepid). Not to impressed with the dash either. What I would like to know is:

- Are there Honda/Acura seats (RSX maybe?) that are heated/memory/power/etc that can be directly bolted in, without modification to the seat frame?
- If its possible, how are the heated/memory/power functions controlled? Would I need to change out just the body harness from the car the seats come out of, or would the BCM need to be changed as well?

- Is it possible to add automatic climate control, and what all is involved? With my Intrepid, it was the dash harness (upper and lower), and the blower resistor control module, and the "headunit" for the Auto climate control as well. Is it about the same here?

- Is there a higher quality dash (soft touch, nice layout, etc) from Acura that would bolt right in? Im just guessing that the RSX would be on the same platform as the Civic, so I'm guessing that would be the way to go.

-Is it possible to add an auto headlight function to these cars?

-Finally, is there some kind of trip computer I can add to the car? The EVIC I added to my Intrepid from a Special gives me Instant MPG, Avg. MPG, Miles->Empty, Distance til service, Homelink, direction, Temperature (Outside) and also lets me control and program functions of the car, like if the horn beeps when I lock the door, which door unlocks first, program remotes, set service distances, how long the headlights stay on, etc etc. Anything similar available for this car?

Thanks guys!

the rsx seats will swap with minor modification (3 bolts line up, the fourth you need to drill out the seat bracket a bit larger to line up with the frame). you can fit either cloth or leather. the canada version has heated seat i believe but harder to find. those had a regular switch on the dash not tied to the ecm. you can also get a heated seat aftermarket kit (ebay usually) and install them behind the leather as inserts.

the civic hybrid (03-05) has auto climate control but it is tied to the ecm/pcm for all the functions. it would be a huge project and i'm not sure if the car would even run with the different computer in there. i would say this is a no unless you are very good with electronics.

one member here many years ago was able to swap the rsx dash into the civic. it was very difficult and i dont remember the specifics. i'm not sure he did a writeup about it either, but it does fit if you have the time and money to play.

auto headlight is fairly easy if youre handy with wiring, they sell the kits everywhere that you can wire into the factory system. some have photosensors if you want the lights to come on when it gets dark. others have delay timers that leave the lights on for a minute after shutting off the car.

the hybrid again came with the different functions in the gauge cluster but was controled by the ecu. some guys have done a hybrid gauge swap but most of the functions (like instant mpg) would not work with the standard computer.

These Ideas you have are interesting at the least. Many people who own Civics have swapped RSX units and other various systems, parts ect. I have seen some really cool stuff. The variability of options is nearly endless in a Civic it is one of the most modifiable ride on the market. I have come to the conclusion that there is a way if the will is there and as long as will is sporting a well lined wallet. I have seen in shows Civics with horsepower as high as 600WHP and greater, but the money spent was sick and would make any person want to throw up.
Gearbox is correct about the seats, I no nothing about the rest yet. I too have interest in the seat modification or swap but im wanting the leather seats from an 06' Accord, they are just bumppin'. I would be greatly interested in seeing the progress of your modifications so post pics.
This is so cool I love it.

Damn. Thats kinda retarded on Honda's part. Oh well. That is confusing however that the ATC/Heated Seats would be tied into the ECM/PCM. If anything, I would think it would be tied into the BCM. Strange. Kind of a pitty really. Ive started off with a completely base Intrepid (excluding the sunroof), and with about 65-100hours worth of labor, and about $1000 spent, I now have every factory luxury option that was ever available for any of the LH cars, excluding those that are model specific (like the HID stock headlights on the 300M Special).

I was hoping it would be easier to add such things to the Civic.

One vital question on the swapping of computers to facilitate functionality swaps would be this; Do these cars have sentry key systems, such as a SKIM module or VTSS? Also, how easily can the options on the computer management systems (PCM/ECM/BCM/FCM) be changed? Does it require a DRB3 tool? Or is it something different that Honda uses?

we have immobilizer that reads a chip in the key. otherwise it disables fuel and ignition. it is very tightly would up with the ecu and near impossible to disable. there is no way to change anything in these computers except for flashing an update or something at the dealer.

Is that with every key, or only some? And how do you tell the difference if there is one?

Hmmm. See, on the LH platform, the Sentry Key is tied into the PCM, but only via the SKIM module. So, if you want to bypass it, then just switch out your PCM with one from an LH w/o SKIM (Sentry Key Ignition Module). That SKIM is on the bottom of the steering column, and has a ring that wraps around where the ignition is. When the sentry key passes through this ring, it sets off some kind of sensor (possibly magnetic coding) that lets the engine start. Put in the wrong key, and it won't read the right single and won't tell the PCM to start the car....

I need to pull apart the steering column and see if there is something similar....I know its like that on all Chryslers, Fords, and GMs during that period of 1995-2006, when they switched to RF signals instead.

Re: HAve a few mods I want to do...questions

every 01+ civic all models and trims came with it from the factory. i looked into removing mine before since its pretty useless, but the wire diagrams were so complicated i didnt even try. you would have to make a mess and rewire everything to get around it. when you turn the key off, there is a green key light that flashes 5 times in the dash to let you know its being locked. it will also flash on startup if you use the wrong key and wont start the motor.

Heres a quick question: Does the ECU in these cars have proprietary based programming? Is there a computer program out there that some of you use to access the ECU and change certain things like fuel/air mixtures, etc? Just thinking, the sentry key part is either in the BCM or the ECU, and if its in the ECU and there is a programmer out there, that means you might be able to remove the sentry key programming from the code lines, so that it wouldnt check for it. Then you could just remove the SKIM and go on your way. Thats what I did with my dads 2003 F-150 FX4. Only way to install the alarm. It was either by a $100 bypass module from Ford, or buy the $20 program and do it myself. Took me a couple of days of looking through coding to find it, but I did and removed it.

there is no way to hack or do anything to the stock ecu due to how it is setup. the guys with turbos have to swap in a different standalone unit like the aem ems that is programmable.

Well damnit.....

I guess Im at a standstill.....

Oh well. Ill be installing a Kenwood KDC-7205 and a KFC 10" subwoofer in a ported box this next week in all likely hood. That will at least give it some extra oomph in the sound department. Already added some tweeters, but I need to adjust them. They are too "shrill" sounding.

Re: HAve a few mods I want to do...questions

rsx seats 3 bolts line up perfectly, the fourth you will need to widen the hole on the seat bracket a bit so it lines up with the frame bolt hole on the car. very easy to do with a drill. btw that only goes for real rsx seats and sliders. the ebay ones you posted are cheap generic fakes. no guarantees they will fit at all.
