i was at the shop buying some synthetic oil and one of the people asked what year and when i told him 02 he was like NO!! YOU WILL CAUSE MORE PROBLEMS THEN ANYTHING. he said its too good of a oil and it will blow seals and gaskets. so idk what to do because i want to swich over to synthetic but i dont want to be dealing with those type of problems. is this true?

ive been using valvoline synpower for a year and now redline for 6 months. nothing bad happened to my 02 civic and it has 100k on it currently.
Re: is this true??
I think the only problem that could possibly arise is if you had a small leak, it's probably gonna be much worse. Other than that, if the car is in good mechanical shape, you should be fine.

its hard to say what your engine is like inside without knowing anything about how you drive and do maintenance. many factors can lead to a bad engine without you even knowing you did anything wrong. you could always run a treatment of auto-rx.com first and then switch to synthetic after its completed. synthetic should not cause problems in a good motor, no matter how many miles it has.
Re: is this true??
ya i dont have any leaks only thing is a warped oil pan gaskit but it dosent leak at all my oil level is always about the same. and my car is babied i change the oil every 3k and plugs every 6k. i stay up with all my other fluids.but with that said i will probably do my oil pan gasket and search for anything else to be sure i dont have any probs. is there anything thing else im missing or should no.

Re: is this true??
thats pretty much it. just do a regular oil change and fill it up with synthetic. most of them will go 10k miles easily so you may only want to change the filter at 5k miles. i normally just do mine every 10k miles/10 months together and never have a problem. you may want to watch the dipstick for a while after switching. i had some oil getting lost at first that seemed to go away after a while.
Re: is this true??
The last oil change I did in my old civic (bought a nicer one) I used synthetic and that had 150k on it. Plus the engine wasn't in great shape. It was running but not too great. No leaks or anything.

Re: is this true??
I've ran a few different things over the years. But I've mostly ran a synthetic blend or a full synthetic pretty much the entire life of the engine. I have a 140k now and still going strong. I think my oil pan gasket is starting to seep, but it's not dripping. So I'll leave it for a bit.
