Is it legal to wash your engine at your house?
I'm thinking of giving the engine a good degreasing and cleaning.
However is it legal to do the cleaning on the car port? I live in California if law allows it.
If not, where could I go clean it?
What engine components should I cover up so that they don't get wet?

you can clean it so long as there are no hazardous materials like oil, antifreeze, or any other toxic fluid that will be washed off. if its normal stuff like dirt, brake dust, pebbles, etc then you are fine.

In theory, no
No hazardous material should ever touch the ground in California.
Do people do it anyways? yeah, pretty much
