2005 Civic LX Couple Octane Recc.?

I know this seems like a stupid question but it's having me very confused.
When I first bought my car I thought it was supposed to use regular 87 octane, then I read somewhere that it's recommended to use midgrade 89.

But I just now checked the manual and it says to use "86 octane or higher".

So I'm very confused if I should be using regular or midgrade (or maybe even higher)?
I'm looking for the highest performance, not 'whatever will run for the cheapest' or 'minimum requirement' I want to use what will run best for the car.

I haven't found anywhere in the manual that says to use a specific octane, and only that octane.

If anyone else has the same car and knows the answer let me know.

- Paul

Re: 2005 Civic LX Couple Octane Recc.?

my 2002 manual says use 87 octane for best performance. and the engine didnt change until 2006. the d17s are definately not hi compression motors so no need for any higher than 87.

I agree with the above posts.. Only time I put anything more than 87 octane was when I had my turbo installed.

Who can afford anything higher than 87 anyhow. I've used 87 since i bought my 03 and it's always ran fine.
