Problems with A/C/Heating fans

Hello All,

About a month ago my A/C / Heating fans inside my car suddenly stopped working. I took it to a mechanic for some other maintenance and he had informed me that the blower motor was bad. Since it seemed easy enough to replace, I bought the part, and replaced it. I confirmed that all three screws were tight and it was placed correctly; I also double-checked to make sure the cable had been seated properly but this did not resolve the issue.

I read on some other forums that the blower motor going bad can also blow its corresponding fuse. So I broke open the manual but found absolutely no fuse that would correspond to it. I also checked all the fuses I could with a fuse checker and they were all good. Some of them I couldn't check because they were either a different type of fuse or the fuse checker wouldn't reach. The only fuse that I could see would be related to it would be the heater blower but I'm not sure if this is the right one. Also, I looked up some older models and it looks like the same fuse that is listed as the defroster also controlled the A/C / Heating; However, my rear defroster (only fuse closest to this) is working just fine.

I should also note that I recently noticed a strange low tick when I change the fan from cold to hot and vice versa. I'm not sure if this was happening before as I normally have my music up pretty loud but I felt it was worth mentioning.

The car is a 2001 Honda Civic DX.

Any one have any advice on which fuse needs to be replaced or how I can further troubleshoot this?

there is a blower motor transistor you shouldve changed first. usually those new radial blower motors (01+ civics) never go bad.

Aaaah. So, is there no actual fuse related to the blower motor then?

Is this the piece you're referring to:

Re: Problems with A/C/Heating fans

there is a blower motor relay in the under hood box. but usually the transistor is what goes bad first. you could take it off and see if there are burn marks on it or visible problems. its located near the motor on the side and pretty easy to spot under the glove box.

Re: Problems with A/C/Heating fans

Sorry about not responding in a while. So I pulled the transistor and didn't notice any obvious burn marks or other defects. How would I go about checking the relay? Also, if I were to have a diagnostic run on my would it tell me if the system is low? The reason I ask is becuase I read in another forum that if the system is low it can cause the fans to stop.

Re: Problems with A/C/Heating fans

Look down in on the blower fan from the top with the cabin filters out and see if the fan spins for a second when the fan switch is on and ignition switched from I to II
