Downshifting in an auto?
Yes make fun of me... I have an auto...
I wish it was a manual but I can't really do that right now. BUT back to my original question! Is it okay to downshift from D to 3 and then 2 to engine brake? Will it wear on my tranny?

Re: Downshifting in an auto?
um generally its not a good idea, it puts more stress on the trans. i try never to downshift unless i have to. and certainly never to slow the car down. just use the brakes. altho the stupid grade logic will downshift by itself if you are braking while going downhill. extremely annoying and everytime it does it i hear this huge clunk and feels like somethings about to break. so i try to brake gently and sometimes it doesnt downshift. on flat roads it wont do anything.
Re: Downshifting in an auto?
if you practice, you can left-foot brake, and rev-match the shifts similar to driving a stick shift. if you do it properly, it won't damage anything. if you don't match it properly, the clutches will slip slightly, and the fluid will break down faster, and you can possibly burn your clutches up. the transmission is electronically controlled, so it can take a little bit getting used to the timing. if you try this, i suggest getting a basic transmission service (drain and refill) performed before you start and once you get the hang of it.
