vtec switch?
vtec switch?
I was out at the races tonight and after the cops came I was hanging out with some friends at 7/11 and someone brought up the idea of a vtec on/off switch. I've head of something like this and attempted to Google to find more info but was lost. Is it possible to turn your vtec on when you want with a switch? I know how vtec works and understand vtec at low rpm's wouldn't work to well but being able to control vtec would be fun in a way.

Re: vtec switch?
very bad idea, you need four conditions to be met (coolant temp, oil pressure, throttle position, and rpm) so that the cam switch happens safely. just flipping a switch when you feel like it = ruined motor and worse performance. the ecu will not pop the solenoid unless the car is fully warmed up, oil pressure is normal, rpm is above 4500, and gas pedal is at 100% throttle.

Re: vtec switch?
and if you want more technical info, each of the four conditions sends a 3v signal to the ecu. only when you get 3+3+3+3=12v signal sent to the ecu does the ecu then send a 12v signal to the vtec solenoid bolted on the head to switch the cam profile.
Re: vtec switch?
this is not true. each sensor sends it's own voltage. it's the software in the computer thats makes the desion to turn on the vtec or not.
