Civic ignition stuck!

Today when I started my 1992 civic si hatch the car started fine but when I went to push the clutch it sounded like the starter would start, even though the car was already on. When I would release the clutch the noise would stop. I then noticed that the ignition would not turn in any direction. After the car was running for about 15 minutes I saw that the temp gauge was at full hot, I panicked and Disconnected the ignition fuse to shut the car off. If anyone has info on what happened and how to fix it would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Re: Civic ignition stuck!

...sounds like a few things.

maybe your clutch position switch is now connected to the starter (positive wires worn out and touching)?

If you don't know how to trouble shoot I'd take her to a mechanic.

Just wondering how that could be the issue of the key tumbler doesn't move at all and is stuck in the ignition spot. I'm guessing I just need a new tumbler?

Re: Civic ignition stuck!

If the key won't turn, fix that first.
IDK if you can take it apart and figure out what happened or if you just buy another unit, depends on your abilities

Once that works again, see if the starter still works right or if it was damaged

Then see if it still overheats and why.
(Make sure the radiator is full of coolant and the fans work first)

I could take it apart but I'm probably just gonna buy a new unit because the ignition was messed up anyway.(stolen earlier in its life). And the reason it was overheating is because the car thought it was off so the fans never turned on. Thank you hopefully I get it done soon.
