help, water issues

I was driving to the bus stop this morning and it was raining. I go through a puddle I didn't really notice too well, car suddenly stops. Figured that water prob got into the CAI, so I pull it to the side out of the puddle and check the spark plugs. They don't seem to be wet or anything. I let the car off for 15-20 minutes and nothing; no crank. I did have some attempt but no luck.

What would be the problem here? I'm hoping the pistons didn't break or anything. Any ideas? 5th gen Civic EX coupe.

Thanks.

Remove the spark plugs, then try to crank it.

Next step is to use a socket/wrench on the crank bolt to see if the engine is locked up.

Update: I don't have time to crank the engine or look at it thoroughly right now, but I went to the car just to see if I had any luck. Tried to start, and it cranked for a second and it seemed like it wanted to start but then it stopped. No crank after that.

So it went "ruh ruh woop.........." *silence*

Pull the plugs out and see if it will crank.
Watch, it may blow a load of water out.
Screw plugs back in, See if it will run.

NOTE: If there was water in the cylinders, then there will be water in the oil which is bad!

See (listen) if noisy and/or runs bad

If runs bad, then compression test and check for bent rods.

Pretty much, it was kinda like a subtle crank but it felt like it could start if it kept cranking.
So pull the spark plugs and see if it cranks and if water comes out?
I'll try it again before I go out.
And yeah my worst concern is a bent rod or the piston being messed up. I'm gonna end up changing the oil if I can get it to run and take it home.

Correct.

You cannot compress liquid.

The connecting rod is the weak link. They bend if the crank keeps turning when the piston can't make its full stroke

Worse case scenario, how much would an engine be, with the swap?

Seriously: How long is a stick?

A million would probably cover it.

Re: help, water issues

You might want to consider getting rid of the water-sucking intake setup.

thats for sure, definetly not letting this happen again. ill probably end up just cutting the tube so it stops by the side instead of coming through the shell of the car.
