95 hatch- the fun to drive factor
95 hatch- the fun to drive factor
Hello all, I recently picked up a 95 DX hatchback and am looking for some ideas/tips. Quick disclaimer, I'm not super worried about having the absolute fastest or flashiest vehicle on the block. I've been a casual automotive enthusiast for many years and have owned quite a few fun cars but I'm pretty new to aftermarket tuning/modding/performance. I've also traditionally been more of a VW/Mini type than Civic but I test drove this car and loved it because while it wasn't fancy there was something about it's feel that was very very fun and it's price and reliability pulled me in. The car is a daily driver first and for most and I am well aware that the DX engine with an automatic transmission is never going to be a super car and I'm perfectly fine with that.
That said I want to make it more fun. I've done a lot of searching online but it seems that most of what you find for Civics is just based on getting them to go as fast as possible in a straight line and that's not really what I'm looking for. What I want is to get this car to feel even more like a go cart on curvy roads. While I don't necessarily want 60 additional hp I would like to have a little more pep when I step on the gas. I think handling and acceleration are the main areas I want to upgrade in but as I said I'm not expert on it. Finally, this is really a long term project/hobby for me. I don't intend to break the bank on it, just something to make my vehicle a little more fun and give me something to do on weekends
With that in mind... any tips? I don't intend to do any sort of engine swap and turbo/super charger is also a bit more than I would ideally like to do but I've also heard that things like exhaust and intake are not actually really worth it so I might be open to turbo/super charger. As far as handling I assume I'm looking at suspension, wheels and tires but I don't know very much at all about it.
Finally... exhaust. I would love to get a bit of a sporty growl but I do not want the obnoxious whine heard so often from 4 cylinder cars with a coffee can tacked on the back. Are there any specific systems or types of systems that would be recommended?
Thanks in advance.
