evap leak problem

I have an 93 civic with a 1.6 and I went to get a smog and I was told I have an evap leak.. now I have no check engine light. But the tech says I have a leak somewhere.. would an evap leak effect my mileage and performance in any way?

Re: evap leak problem

I don't think it would affect your fuel mileage. Have you tried changing your gas cap? Sometimes a small amount can get by an old cap. My daughters '98 Civic had this problem. My mechanic said to try putting petroem jelly around the cap prior to inspection... it worked for a few days but long enough for inspection. I replaced the cap later anyway.
I would also check all of your hoses going to and from the cannister. A clamp could be loose. Good luck.
