1987 crx b18 swap information help please
ok, i bought this car for $650. i want to do one of 2 things, either do the b18 swap now or figure out whats wrong with it now and do the swap legit. it will turn over and run but you have to keep giving it gas or it will die.i wanted to clean the iacv but i have no idea where it is exactly. its completely stock right now, 5 speed i bought some of the parts already like the block, cam, pistons, waiting on the guy to give me the clutch and the head. what else do i need to get to do the swap, i looked alot of places and i found i need to get a b series shift linkage and new axles, the ecu needs to be changed since the engine is carbuerated, and the engine mounts need custom fabbed or the innovative ones will work. but what about the starter and alternator will those be universal or what? this will be my first swap.

congrats on finding a stock 87 crx! very rare these days.. to start, i had a 88 accord that was 5 speed with the same problem; would run fine but when you were stopped you had to give it gas to keep it running. if i stalled it out it would start right back up; in time i learned to push the clutch with the left, hold the brake with the right, and feather the gas to keep it running. also i had a 90 accord that had the same problem.. same story with the gas and break feathering. i found out the problem with the 90 accord was that it was running on 3 cylinders and that's why it wanted to die out.. ended up totaling that one so problem solved i guess, lol.. the 88 accord i was told had a cracked head and needed a new one, and that this was the reason this one wouldn't idle. i think you should get a free estimate at a shop to see exactly what is wrong, and then we could help you decide. if you could get a head for a couple hundred and throw it on and drive it till it blows, then do the swap, that would be ideal. but if it needs the engine rebuilt not worth it. i drove my 90 accord (the one i wrecked) for about 20k miles with it running like that and never broke down or so on. the 88, a friend bought it from me and bought a new carb thinking that was the problem although i told him otherwise and some other misc. stuff and never solved the problem.. he then scrapped the car for 200...... i gave him a deal and sold it to him for 550 when i bought it for 650 and drove it for a while and put new brakes on it.. and i told him i'd give him over scrap price to buy it back, but he just got upset and to the scrap yard she went.. still sore over that if ya can't tell lol get it checked out and reply back, good luck.

oh ya i iwas thinking about this issue; the things i posted are definitely the extremes of what can be wrong, hopefully not your case. might get lucky and need spark plugs, wires, vacuum line or something easy and cheap.
