Too many miles?

Hi, I'm new to the site and I've got a question I'm sure all of you are sick of hearing. I'm looking at picking up a 1994 Civic EG hatchback, but it's awfully high milage at 334,000. It has a 1.5 liter and a 5 speed manual transmission. The owner is asking $500 for the car, and I'd mostly like to know your guy's opinions on the high milage. I'vet never owned a Honda before, but I've heard that they'll run forever. What should I be looking for when I go check it out on Friday? Thanks, Jeff

Re: Too many miles?

All depends on how well it was maintained at mileage that high.

At that price, if it looks good from the outside, jump on it and if the engine blows it's usually $1000+ to have someone replace the engine. Also, don't expect the A/C, heater, or radio to work- that's just a bonus. Just look for leaks and major body damage or repairs, and check fluids.

Re: Too many miles?

The price does not seem bad..what does the body look like? take it for a test drive see how it runs..i have seen these cars last a long time..like MindBomber said depends how it was maintained..Sounds like a good car for the price...

Things to look for...look under the hood for leaks, check for new parts, check for damage to the undercarage, check tires and the wear, functionality of everything IE lights, heat, wipers, radio and all that stuff...biggest thing is start it and see how it acts..if smooth with no smoke from the tail pipe...
