Exclamation Idling problem

Hey Everyone,

I am new to civicforums and new to cars, but I am willing to try and fix some things myself and learn as I go. I hope you can help me!

My problem is that when my 1991 Civic Sedan is idling, the engine will feel like it is "skipping a beat" - almost like a palpitating heart. The RPM does not change, so I am thinking its not an AIC problem, but rather the spark plugs misfiring. Is that a completely wrong guess?

Your advice will be appreciated!

As long as your guess isn't something like, "OMG, my car iz idling funny! Could it be a broken hood latcH??!" I think you're good. But seriously though, nothing wrong with your assumption, dude. Better to have a basic understanding of what's going on, so you can better troubleshoot your issue. When was the last time you gave the car a tune up? It wouldn't hurt to swap out those old plugs, wires, cap, rotor and fuel filter to get the car back in tip top shape. Cleaning the IAC may help the idle. You never know. If the car had a really bad misfire, you'd get a flashing CEL.

Re: Idling problem

start with new plugs and wires (ngk brand) and new cap and rotor (oem). also have the ignition timing checked.

Hey, Thanks for the quick response! My car has about 80,000 clicks on it despite it being 20 years old, but I have no idea how long ago any of that stuff was changed. I will give it a look and see if things need replacing!
