95 si Craiglist special!
Aside from my introduction and a few other posts I haven't been around much. I come to check out the threads but rarely participate. Anyways I thought some of you driving an older civics might like to see what I've been up to.
I bought my car about 2 months ago from a guy on Craigslist for $700. He was the original owner and claimed to have taken fairly good care of the car.As you have already guessed from the title it is a 95 Civic Si coupe. Here are some pics.

So pretty dismal. So let me do a quick run down of the repairs I've made.
-Right Front side upper control arm
-New e-brake cable
-New rear brake drums
-New brake pads
-New throttle body gasket
-New Fast Idle valve
-New stock exhaust manifold
-New Manifold gasket
-New Oil Pan gasket
-replaced heat shield with one from wreckers that I polished up.
-New NGK O2 sensor
-4 new tires
-Air intake
-I Replaced Tranny fluid with Honda genuine MTF
-Replaced various faded buttons, and gas/trunk lid lever facia
-Shaved antenna
-Shaved spoiler
-New front lip
I also painted the whole car, and replaced the stock audio system. When I bought the car it had a six disc changer with two cartridges. I found 11 techno CD's and one Def Leopard cd. No wonder the system was ****ed.
I installed 6x9 pioneers in the rear a pioneer head and new 6" speakers in the front.
Here are some pics

Because I live in Canada... particularly the far north, I painted the car entirely in gloss black Rust Shield. I bought it from Home Hardware for $33.00 I used one third of the gallon.
My entire investment on the car now, including the car itself, licensing, safety and e-test, parts etc... I've spent only 1600. car runs like bran new. Very quiet. I have already put about 6000 km on her myself.
Just wanted to post some pics to see what you dudes thought, and if you had any questions or suggestions.

Re: 95 si Craiglist special!
Just a quick update for those of you bored enough to give a ****.
Had some down time this week cause of the cluster **** of snow we're getting here in North Bay Ontario. So I finally got around to changing my plugs and wires to a nice new set. NGK's all around. Also installed a BRAND new radiator that I got for $15.00 and a strut bar that I also got for a whopping 15 bucks.
bringing my total investment in the special to about 1770.00
Here are some pics for the ADD people

I got to give the car a real test this morning when I took it out rally racing on the road in front of my house. Thus the snow on and under the hood.
Car is still running flawlessly.
This is a picture of the snow, my driveway, and the road infront of my house... also my idiot plow mule brother.

Re: 95 si Craiglist special!
Dudes and Dudettes,
Haven't been around in a while and I was just telling my brother that I didn't really come to the site that much because my $700.00 car was so reliable.
Alas after 20 000 kms I couldn't get her to start Monday morning. The battery had lots of charge and had no problem turning the engine. The plugs were getting spark, but I couldn't hear the fuel pump going. I went to work and came home at the end of the day and tried a little more to get it started but nothing.
This morning I got it towed to a mechanic because I'm in the city working so I don't really have anywhere I can look at it myself. For a lot of obvious reasons I was pretty sure it was going to be a fuel pump issue. Including the fact that when the tow truck dropped it off at the shop. The guy got in it to try and start it and without hesitation it started right up.(prolly from getting knocked around en route) To make a long story short when I called the mechanic at the end of the day to see what the issue was, he said that it was the ECU, and that that they "Played around with it all day and it was running"????? The car had no problems AT ALL prior to this date.
Electronically and functionally the car was running %100 before Monday. He tells me he wants to install a new icu for %600 and additionally charge me $160 for "playing around with it"
So I guess in the end is this a common problem? ECU rot causing the car not to start? All lights and electronics are working just no fuel...=ecu problem?
I didn't even think to check the ecu.
Is this guy trying to bend me over? Or am I stupid?

Re: 95 si Craiglist special!
dude i love it! nice work man
more power to anyone whos joining me in keeping clean EG's on the road...now don't dirty up that work with some cheesy body work, but by reading your posts you seem to have more sense than that.

possibly bent over? have you tried a new ignition coil? i have a d16 with 150k and my car burned on up. but kind of expensive for "playing around with it" i'd say.. but nice car! love the valve cover!
Re: 95 si Craiglist special!
Do you still here the main relay click when you try to start it? If not, it's the main relay. Otherwise I say it's probably the ECU like the guy said.
Re: 95 si Craiglist special!
Hey. I'm sorry I'm so bad with reply's. I'm busy as **** building displays at the national home show in Toronto. Any ways. I had a chance to go and take a look at the so called damaged ECU, and it did look pretty cooked. The whole chassis of the computer was corroded and rusted really badly. It was pretty apparent that the corrosion had made its way onto the circuitry and some of the transistors and capacitors were obviously blown.
So I got a phone call today and he said that it was ready, and starting everytime again. I'm going to pick the car up tomorrow morning so we'll see.
Total repair cost $360. Claims he installed a new computer. But I have my doubts.
In the mean time, thanks for all the feed back you guys are giving me. I promise I have no intention of doing any cheezy rice work on my car. Just trying to keep it sharp and running smoothly. Which up until this problem hasn't been very hard.
So my total investment into this car (not including pine tree air fresheners and quaker state) is somewhere in the neighborhood of $2130.

Re: 95 si Craiglist special!
Hey dudes and dudettes.
Just a quick update. In the end the mechanic installed another ecu for me. got the car out of the shop for 360 bananas cash.
That was just about 3 weeks ago now. Car is back to running perfectly.
wish I had more to post but this car starts up like new everyday.
Hypothetical question. I'm eyeballing another little project and might get rid of this civic. What do you guys think this baby might fetch me in its current condition. 290 000km. In the gta?
