95 Civic Vent control issues

I've got a 95 Civic Dx, the a/c vent control works all around except for the vent control, the only setting that works is the front vents. The feet and defrost (and the combination settings) just don't work. The buttons light up when you press them, but the air stays the same. The fan speeds work, the inside/outside setting works, the A/C turns on and off, it's just the directions that are having issues.
Any help or ideas?
Thanks!

Re: 95 Civic Vent control issues

There's a little motor in your A/C unit that switches your vent doors. Either that has gone bad or your A/C control switch is bad or there is a loose connection/broken wire somewhere. Check http://www.honda-tech.com/, they may have a PDF service manual.

Cool, what is that piece called? or what would be the best search term for that kind of thing?

Re: 95 Civic Vent control issues

I would strongly recommend you get a manual even if it's a haynes or chilton to diagnose before you go ripping the car apart. To get to that motor you have to take the entire dash off then take the entire A/C assembly out. It usually take several hours. With 15-30 minutes of diagnoses you can save yourself a lot of blood, sweat, and tears.

mode motor is #5: http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/...itch=&hidIrno=
control switch is: http://www.bkhondaparts.com/billkay/...itch=&hidIrno=

More places to get parts: https://www.civicforums.com/forums/8...ead-first.html

You can sometimes find a manual at half-price books. Usually the parts store has one in your model. Or for factory manuals: http://www.helminc.com/helm/homepage...051&Style=helm

Re: 95 Civic Vent control issues

Yeah, I got the Haynes, but it just skims over that area. It shows how to get under there, but it stops there, no help with problem diagnosis or pointing out individual parts. This is a secondary concern right now, I'm doing a head gasket and up renovation of the engine first. I'll def be poking around down there before too long- winter is coming and I'm going to need that defrost!
