Recently had the check engine light come on after negative battery terminal became disconnected (everything went dead when I turned the key causing me great panic until I discovered the problem.) After jumping the pins on the connector under the panel I got what looks like 4 long flashes and one short = 41 for the CEL code which apparently =
Front Primary HO2S Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 2 Sensor 1)
I feel like Billy Barty in the movie "Willow" during the emergency town meeting:
"I shall consult THE BONES!!....." (Scrutinizes cast bones and turns to Willow)
"The bones tell me . . . nothing!"
What does this actually mean as far as potential repair cost? I think I already had the oxygen sensor replaced when it was still under warranty many moons ago (would've cost $250 otherwise, if I remember right) Is this what I am looking at now or what? Should I try and clear the code to see if it comes up again and isn't a result of the terminal bad connection first?
Other info: The car is in okay shape but apparently was a near thing on the smog check this year, and my mileage is seeming pretty poor for what I used to get per gallon = 330mi per tank down to less than 300, maybe only 260-280 now. She's got about 140k on the odometer but I have been the only owner and have a good maintenance record until last few years only oil changes and mechanical repairs to the cv boots, brakes. I'm sure a tune-up wouldn't hurt but its been a tight stretch for cash.
I have a good reliable mechanic to take it to, but I just like to know what to expect or if possible is it something to fix myself.
