speedometer and clock

speedometer and clock
i have issues with an intermittent speedometer and clock. not sure if they are related but the speedometer works fine for a while then just drops to 0. this will happen over and over. once i noticed while sitting at a red light it jumped to like 60 mph and went out again.
as far as the clock, it usually goes off when i turn on my headlights/running lights and flickers on/off. since it always resets back to 1:00 i think it is losing power completely.
anyone have any pointers on what to check here? mainly concerned about the speedo.
