91 Si Rear Bumper Cover Removal

Hi, I tried posting this in the Honda Civic Si and Honda Civic SiR Forum but maybe it's better to try here. Anyway, hopefully someone out there has some insight into how to get the cover off the rear bumper so I can get at the bumper frame underneath it which is collapsing from corrosion. The bumper cover is sagging so much that I can see screws going from the top down into the cover but can't get at them because of a body-colored 2" wide piece of trim that wraps around the back of the car under the tail lights and hatch. How do I get that piece of trim off? Thanks.

Re: 91 Si Rear Bumper Cover Removal

Here is a picture of the parts involved on both bumpers:

Just look around to look for any screws or clips that might be holding it in place.. pop the trunk, maybe something is hiding there.. I couldnt tell you for sure since I've never taken the rear bumper off a 91 vic, although I have worked on them.

On the 7th generations the bumpers are held on by clups, and you just peal it away staring at one of wheel wells.

Looking at the picture it looks like there might be 4 or 5 clips or screws underneath that hold it in, as well as two behind the license plate.

Re: 91 Si Rear Bumper Cover Removal

Thanks, the diagram helps a little bit - the screws (pc 36) are the ones that go up into the body colored trim above the bumper that I think needs to come off somehow (this trim has the hatch lock cylinder in it). The only progress I have made is getting the extreme ends of the bumper cover off where I have access to screws (pc 33) at the rear of the wheel wells. If worse comes to worse, I'll probably wind up forcing the cover off and having to find a way to repair the holes which will be ripped but I can do it if I have to...although I'll still need access to put the screws back up into the trim I mentioned above to secure it!
