speedometer is acting up

speedometer is acting up
on my 92 civic, the speedometer stops working at times. the mileage thing stops working, and the other trip computer or meter thing that calculates how many miles driven, stops working as well...then it will work again. but being at "0" miles per hour for some time is kinda annoying....any ideas what that could be? how to change it?

It's more than likely the vehicle speed sensor (VSS) Try taking the wire harness off and cleaning it with a wire brush and some electrical cleaner. The VSS is somewhat pricey so cleaning it should be your first step to fix the problem. The VSS is easy to get to under the hood kind of under the intake manifold.
