95DX Dash-light replacement

Anyone ever replace their 92-95 dash light bulbs? Mine on the ac/vent cluster is dead. I don't know how to take that switch cluster out. Tried a couple of times and ended up chipping off the dash How do you get them out? Thanks.

Re: 95DX Dash-light replacement

very easy.

Take the radio out first.

Next take the ashtray/cigarette bezel out from under neath the radio

Disconnect the hot/cold cable from the latch in the passenger floor board
(if you are sitting in the passenger seat this would be beside your left foot)

You'll need a flashlight fo this part.
Look above where the radio was removed.(in the dash) There is a retaining bolt that holds the ac controls in. Take the screw out. Make the disconnections from the plugs @ the back and slide the controls out like the radio.

You will need to take apart the face plate from the controls, just a couple of phillips screws.

Now the hard part. Finding bulbs.

As much work and cold beer that would go into this saturday afternoon delight, just buy new ones. plain and simple.

I actually left mine out, and put in an under dash switch in line with the speedo cluster, that way when the man pulls you over and ask you how fast you were going, you can look at him straight face and say, "I have no idea my dash lights are out."

Improper equipment ticket, go home

Let me know if you need more info,
Hope this helps,
Brad

Re: 95DX Dash-light replacement

Ive seen sleeves before that actually cover the bulbs like a snack wrap or something, but they fall apart. Ive seen them mostly for the overhead light in the car. Ive also seen decent jobs with certain types of permanent marker. Haven't tried it myself, but I've seen it a few times, and would never have known that someone used an orange sharpie to have semi-amber bulbs.lol

Hope this helps,
Brad

Re: 95DX Dash-light replacement

I just replaced these dash bulbs (thanks to Brad's sound advice), and since the new bulbs were waaay to bright, so I ended up putting RED electrical tape right behind the face plate, in front of the bulbs, to reduce the light.....Now my AC switches are red colored! Very cool............

This is totally not correct. There are about 10 screws to removed and you need to disassemble your entire dash board or the cluster will not come out.
