I am looking at a 2000 Civic . I have no history on the vehicle. Can anybody give me some tips on what to look for as far as determining whether I should purcase it? I know it needs front tires. It has 117,000 miles on it. Auto, air and sunroof... I believe it is an EX model.

Re: 200 civic
The ex is a good car since it already has the d16y8 and the beloved vtec. It has 127 hp and gets good gas mileage. The things I would ask before I purchase it is if the timing belt has been replaced because the manual says it should be replaced right around 120,000 I believe. I would listen for any engine noise next. If you hear anything other than a pur from the motor question it. Test drive it and see if it shifts hard. If it does that means the transmission fluid has not been changed in a long time. If that is the case the car has probably had poor maintenance. You say the front tires are wore out. Is the wear from the inside or the outside or just the whole tire in general. The tires that wear on outside or inside can be from a many of different things but tires should wear evenly and if this is the case then its good. Another thing is does the steering wheel have slack? If it does this shows that the steering components are wore out and can be dangerous. Use your own judgement on this car. A civic is known to go well over 300,000 miles and have very few issues along the way. Any more questions just ask.
