Body paint rust...

Hello all,
The ole’ 96 civic ex is showing her age with body paint rust, the worst of which is above rear d/s tire. Is this area, worth trying to fix, or would you replace entire panel? If worth trying to fix, what would you use to remove the bubbling paint & rust?

FWIW: The rest of the car also signs of rust, paint fading/loss, as well as, deterioration of clear coat...But, nothing, as bad as above rear d/s tire. That said, these 2 pics show the worst of what I can see, of the rest of the car....So far.

Re: Body paint rust...

doing it right takes some time and quite often exceeds the value of the car. why fix the rust and not the flaking clearcoat? it'll still look the same to a bystander. personally i would just drive it.

if i HAD to fix that i would cut out the cancer, take my cordless grinder and cut out a good section from a car at the junk yard, weld it in, do the filler, sander, primer thing 15x, and have my local shop respray the panel for ~$300. there's a very good chance most people never finish all those steps and end up driving a half repaired car that looks worse than in the picture

Thanks!
How difficult and costly, is it to remove & replace the entire panel?

More than the car is worth.
much easier and more cost efficient to just cut out the bad

i firmly agree with the post above this, which is why i said "just drive it."

i bought the entire panels for my mustang to fix the same rust in the same spot as you show. i'm going to cut the new panels and only replace what i need to with the new metal. even that is a ton of work. enough work that i'm horrified to start on it. one of these days i'll drink enough to start cutting.
