Re: 96 civic coupe help please!!

Post or PM the VIN, let's run it through the system to see what the car really is.

Is it setting codes for VTEC?
Does it have a VTEC valve visible on the head?

Maybe someone replaced the engine?

I ran the vin number and it said it's a 96 civic coupé ex 1.6 and as I'm aware all ex have vtec. Would they have had to switch the ecm as well the car also won't red line. It hits rev limiter at about 6300 is this due to being the d16y7??? So I just bout a car with unknown miles and a engine swap for a weaker slower engine!! Fml. Thanks for any help

Re: 96 civic coupe help please!!

Sounds like you got an engine swap ....and since it isn't setting VTEC codes I'd say it must have an appropriate ECM for the non-VTEC engine that was swapped in.

Why? IDK. Cheap maybe.

Rev limiter....Wiki says redline is 6800 and rev limit is 7200.
Maybe you have a restricted exhaust or intake, or some other issue?

It has a cheap cold air intake stock exhaust manifold and 21/2 inch exhaust all the way back with a fart can on it. I'm kinda pissed now that I know it's a swap idk why they didn't do at least a b16. Sucks tho to drop 1500$ on Turbo kit and still be lucky to have 300hp guess it will take $$$$$ to get her to keep up with the talon Lol. Thanks for all the help!!!!

Makes me wonder if all the wires for the vtec are still there be nice if I could just drop a vtec crate engine back in and boost. I'm hating idk the miles tho. I also think my speed o meter is off. I know Honda's might not be the fastest but I get passed a lot. Lol doing the speed limits. Just got it two days ago. For 900$ and it runs good. Just no where close to fast. Lol
