2000 Civic Auto unable to shift

Hello,
I am need of some guidance please.
2000 Civic EX Automatic
Car stuck in drive - highly likely it is a broken shift cable or worse.
From what I hear there is a manual way to get the car into neutral from the hood section or underneath the car - Can anyone describe how to do this?
I would like to safely tow the vehicle and not while it is in drive.

Thanks very much.

If it broke underneath the car, you would have to get to where the shift cable attached to the transmission linkage in order to move the linkage by hand. You would remove a large bolted cover under the trans for access.
