transmission problems

My transmision shifts fine sometimes its hard to shift into 1st gear and grinds when going into second. Could this be a result on low transmision fluid?

Get under there and LOOK for yourself.
It's faster than waiting for a guess from someone that can't see the car.

Random ideas:

Clutch fluid low (or adjustment if cable type)
Trans fluid low or old
clutch not releasing completely
Clutch disc bad or drag
clutch disc hanging on the input shaft splines, lack of lube
Pilot bearing bad or drag
Pressure plate bad
Trans wear/real trans problem
Bad habits/techniques
Floor mat piled up under the clutch pedal

Re: transmission problems

Yea I should just tear into it but I don't have allot of time because of work. I do have some play in the clutch petal tho. And as far as the tranny problems sometimes when I am taking of from a stop in first gear your can hear the gear mesh through 1st and second gear and then its fine. And when shifting into first gear from a roll your can hear it kind of whining. I'm about to just change the fluid because i have been hearing that could be all of the problem. I am new to Honda civics and don't know which fluid to use I even went to my local auto zone and they had no clue. All the trans fluid they sold were for auto cars. And the gear lube/oil was a heavy duty

Re: transmission problems

Honda dealers sell Hondas Manual Trans Fluid.

Guaranteed to be the correct fluid.

Re: transmission problems

if you dont have any history about the trans itself, then most likley the trans is getting worn out ( shaft bearings and syncros ) . in gen. 6s deinstall and install isnt as bad as it sounds,, dont by a junk trans. take your time doing the job ...... I have a reond. d-16 with papers ready to go..?

Re: transmission problems

all trans whine when moving and shifting into 1st. You should ONLY shift into 1st if you are at a complete spot or are going under 10mph

I'm having the same Problem . I'm going to try to Swap out the Clutch slave Cylinder & Master cylinder because I have read that this could be the problem.. I will let you know if it fixes Mine as soon as i install them. and Bleed them ..

Also You may just have Air in the lines . Try Bleeding your Clutch , it helped mine a little at first.. hope this helps .. To Be Continued ....
