I was driving home from work and stopped a car with my left front wheel...It's a 1999 civic EX 4 door sedan..5 speed with 127 horses under there ...115K, No accidents...I paid cash for it in February of 1999 and never had a payment. I believe I paid $16,400 for it. I went through 5 exhaust systems, it was on it's 2nd catalytic converter that I just put in like 10K ago...I installed a new Pioneer iPod ready radio and put in brand new beautiful headlights last year...they made it look and feel brand new at night. I did the timing belt and all the other 100k goodies last year...everything else was stock...and now I am guessing it is totaled I Haven't heard form the appraiser yet but all the front rods etc were smashed, drivers door wouldn't shut (frame is bent)....
What is a guess at what they will say it is worth vs what I should be getting...

My poor baby I would have driven it another 5 years if I could have...sniff...sniff..

here in Ontario my buddies 2000 EX sedan was a write off and all the insurance company give him was 800 bucks

I don't know. It's a write off but it doesn't look bad enough for the frame to be bent. This might be a somewhat easy repair (new door + fender, hood and bumper). They will definitely write it off as the cars value will sit at around 500 dollars to them. Sory man

Here in Massachusetts they pay you the replacement cost of the same vehicle/condition. Because I had NO other damage to the car I should do OK...If you only got $800 he got screwed...or he had very high miles and existing body damage/rust. It would cost $4K to $5K for an EX w/ 115K around here...fingers crossed I get enough out of it to take a chunk out of a new car...but it sure would save me a lot of ca$h if they fixed it...

I was gonna say 4k for it as well. 2 years ago I got 9k for my totaled 01 EX with 110k. New tranny was just put in 2 weeks prior to the wreck so they credited me 2k for that after extensive bitching....its all about how much you bitch at them lol

Yeah, I have only used 1 shop for all my work so I have access to my records...I talked to my insurance and they said no dice on credit for a NEW catalytic converter i did last year...that was an after market that still cost a decent penny...

Yeah after a year that's gonna be tough to get credit....the tranny i put in was litterally a few weeks old when the wreck happened

Holy mackerel! Got a great call today as far as I am concerned! They called me yesterday to say the estimate was handed in and their "value something or other estimator" was looking over the data, and asked if I had any information to share that would influence that...So I said in the last 10K miles I had a new cat converter ($500 installed) and had the fuel lines and brake lines ALL replaced (see my old post) and a new windshield....She said "oh ok, just fax the receipts in and we'll take that into account."
NO WAY was I going to do that, that's like playing poker with your cards face up...I said that I would just wait for their $# and if I wasn't satisfied I would send the info in...I was very friendly about it, saying her name several times during the conversation and asking about the weather and how it must suck to have to deal with unhappy people all day who crashed cars..She laughed and agreed....

So today she calls me back with my $ and says "I have your valuation and it's going to be $4,764. I remember our talk from yesterday so I threw a little more in there for you..."

So after my deductible and some other minor fees I can pick up my $4,100 dollar check tomorrow...I am VERY pleased...I pays to sweet talk the lady on the other end of the phone....

I went back to say bye to my car an swap out the factory radio for the Pioneer one i put in....I wasn't allowed to take anything else off the car...I would have loved to strip all the little parts that people area always looking for...


Now i have to fight the fault ruing and I can get that other $600 There is only a 10 month court case wait in my state...
