97 Civic EX. IAC Throwing CEL

97 Civic EX. IAC Throwing CEL Check engine light came on today & had a guy at advance check for codes. Said it was P0505 Idle Air Control Valve so my question is would that make the car jerky when changing gears? PLEASE HELP!

Ok so replaced the IACV the screen on the old one was clogged with black gunk. I unplugged the positive on the battery to reset the CEL & car ran good but CEL came back on today when my gf was on her way home from work. Advance said IACV code again but guy said might take 250 miles of driving after replacing. ANY HELP or COMMENTS?
