oil pan difference?

Ok, I am a bit confused on the no need for an oil pan gasket on the Civic EX model. I just picked up my 2nd civic, 2000 EX 5 speed, the first one was in college and early 80s hatchback from Canada. I noticed there is a small leak from the front of the oil pan, or appears to be. So what is the difference between the DC and an EX of the same year? Is it the motor? Mine does not say VTEC or anything like that. It just has HONDA on the valve cover. Is this 2000 a d16y8 motor? Looks like I have to replace the pan due to the previous owner over tightened the plug. And in the process of removing it, some threads came with it. Any info is appreciated. THANKS!

Stock motor for 2000 EX is the Y8. Look here to confirm:

Then go here and enter the correct model and year: http://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com/

And yes the EX has a different pan than the other models. The V-TEC engines always do.

Re: oil pan difference?

Looks like both steel and aluminum types use a pan gasket.

It is the D16Y8 engine. I see by the way the diagram looks I do in fact need a gasket. Guess I was just confused why someone say that it doesn't. Seems odd that it wouldn't need one. Thanks

Many are designed to be sealed with only RTV.

This apparently isn't one of those designs.
