98 with Manual Transmission.. oil question.
98 with Manual Transmission.. oil question.
Apologies if I missed the answer to this.
daughter just bought a 98 with Manual Trans. I'm going to change the trans oil (along with other fluids). I see that Honda is recommended. Is it the only approved oil (I'm willing to put it in if so), or are there others that will work fine also. Reason I ask, I have a dodge that requires a unique fluid (liquid gold). Is this the same way. And if it's the Dealer fluid, are there online sellers where it is cheaper?
thanks

Re: 98 with Manual Transmission.. oil question.
I just did my 99 civic last month. It seems that OEM coolant/trans fluid is the general recommendation for these cars. It takes 2 liters (quarts) and they were $10 each at my local dealership. I didn't really think that was alot of money for 2 years/50000kms. Transmission bearing issues have been noted for Hondas '92-'05. So if you do use something else make sure you choose wisely and not just cheaply.
