Oil leak i cannot figure out
96 civic ex 1.6 vtec..... jus had the motor replaced, and a clutch kit put in, when i got it back its leaking oil, guy said he changed the rear main and cam seals. ok so the leak is covering the driverside underneath of the car, which can pretty much rule out the rear main......it only leaks while running. and i got up underneath it yesterday and changed the oil and filter.... no oil on the engine above the oil press sending unit. so i cranked the car and i can see the oil running from the right side of the oil filter, (not from the oil filer jus the direction its coming from) runs all the way down the oil pan and drips off the right corner of the pan right onto the CAT.... its leaking pretty bad and getting worse,,,, i HAVE NO CLUE where its coming from cant see the top of the oil filter, any ideas? whats right about the oil filter that can make oil leak BESIDES the Oil Press Sending Unit?? already looked at it its CLEAN!!! i really could use some help, had it in the shop twice and they r just replacing parts and its not working or changing anything....tired of spending money!!!
Re: Oil leak i cannot figure out
Every ex has oil leak. I have come to a conclusion. It's either the two gasket for the vtec selanoid, dizzy or crack d16y8 block. Every ex I know leaks. I've came to the conclusion that all y8 has a bad casting for the block. It's cracked from the factory and will continue to develope till it gets outside and leak.
Open up the oil pan and look up towards the pistons. You'll probably see lines. Loooks loks crack and it is cracks. At first I thought it was excess from casting, but no.
I'm selling my 2000 ex next spring and staying away from 6th Gen ex for good.
Do a b16 swap to fix the oil leak if you have a y8 and sell the y8 head to get some money back if you still like civic.
