91 to 97 swap

Is it possible to swap the motor of a 91' 5-speed civic into a 97' automatic civic? The 97 is a D16Y7 DX hatch and I am not sure what the engine model of the 91' is. The seller says its a D16Y7, but I'm not sure if that engine came withe the car.

Also, is it possible to put an automatic transmission from a D16Y7 on a block that had a manuel transmission?

Thanks

No, you can't swap a engine from a 91 into a 97 because it's illegal.

Look here for the engine code:

If it says D16Y7 then a previous owner swapped it in and you're fine to swap it in yours.

Pssh, that's not a reason!

Yep! But it's actually going to be quite difficult. It's a lot easier to go the other way around--you'll need to do some research to see what exactly you're going to need, but as far as I'm concerned it's not worth it.

I know, it's just the simplest one and I didn't feel like explaining the other difficulties with swapping a d16 to a d15..
