A better way to paint?
A better way to paint?
I own a 2000 Civic sedan SE. It's in pretty good running shape overall, but like any car its age, it's starting to have some corrosion issues.
I have all the proper equipment and supplies to do the job (grinder, different sandpaper grits, correct paint color, clearcoat,etc..etc). The only thing I don't have is access to an indoor garage, so i've been making do on windless or near windless days.
So far so good.
Most of my issues are more preventative then anything else. I just want to stop/slow down the corrosion before it leads to bigger problems. I'm somewhat concerned about looks, but realistically it is a 10 year old car.
I just repaired four spots on my roof. I only repaired the spots by taping it off with some paper and I didn't do the entire roof.
Is there a way that I can blend in the new paint with the old in a better way? If I sand the edges, i'm going to scratch the clearcoat on the old section, but if I don't, there's going to be a recognizable line and i'd rather my roof didn't look like a quilt.
Maybe this is unavoidable from trying to do patchwork repair instead of the entire roof, but I didn't really want to undertake a much bigger job for what was at the time, a small issue.
Any suggestions?

Re: A better way to paint?
If you go to a body shop or automotive paint supplier they can make you a batch of paint that will be "pre-blended." In other words, they color match the paint to your car exactly. A good coat of wax with a buffer and voila! Looks good as new and you won't be able to tell the difference between the fresh paint and the old paint. I did this on my 00 Civic Sedan EX and it turned out beautifully.
