1997 civic coupe

I have acquired a 97 coupe, 1.6L. The previous owner had a different motor put in the car said it was from a 2000 civic. He said the repair shop changed manifold and was told it should work. I have since replaced the distributor, and plugs. I have fire but it will not start. There are no belts on the car and I am not sure if they have to be in place or not. Any info will help. The vin number on the engine is 1HGEJ8245VL11376, the car is vin number 1HGEJ8248VL108245. Again any help will be appreciated. THanks heavyd

Re: 1997 civic coupe

you need the following to make the car run.
1) spark
2) fuel
3) timing
You need all 3 to get it running, if you have spark move onto checking for fuel, then onto timing.

Re: 1997 civic coupe

You don't need any belts to run as they only run the accessories....alternator, power steering, a/c...
the water pump is run by the timing belt so you are good there...

Like previously said before, fuel and spark, but timing of when that spark is key..You replaced the distributor? Is it timed properly?

Re: 1997 civic coupe

Okay, found out today that the ecu and the trans. are from the 1997 civic ex. The engine block has these letters stamped on it D16Y5. I believe I will need an adapter or the ecu from what ever car this fits. As best I can find it comes from a CIVIC HX ? Do not really have a clue and I am not familiar with the d16y5 engine. Thanks for the help and any advice will be appreciated.
