What type of mods are you interested in doing, you have lots of options..

Suspension, Brakes, Power, Cosmetics, Audio all have lots of options for under $1k.

Why the hell are all honda owners having such a hard on for vtec? lol, vtec does not mean crap until you hit the higher rpm band until that time its hardly and different than a nonvtec. I always thought that was funny. How many ppl are driving their cars over 6500 rpms in daily driving? My nonvtec civic can spank an si until they hit vtec.

just do the simple little things. intake header and exhaust. with yours being an LX you would also need a hi flow cat to replace the cat that is built into your stock manifold. then get a good suspension and your set. im sure you can get all that stuff for under 1000

They are very reliable when you do your maintenance, take care of the car and it will do the same for you. Yes you have a 6th gen, download the manual in my sig, it will give you a lot of info and get you off to a good start. I have a 98 with intake, header, catback, and msd ign. Its peppy but not powerful. I have no trouble keeping up with si civics but vtec is far from the be all end all of power, like I said until they hit vtec they are pretty much the same as their non vtec counterparts. If you want to look into more power then first engine internal mod should be a cam from bisimoto with head work. The minime swap as its called will net you more power but it makes the stock bottom end more susceptible to blowing up if you leave the stock internals in there. You could swap over to a vtec engine and go from there but unless you are doing all your own work I would not bother with that when you can get just as much out of your engine with a little work.

Re: proud new owner of a 1999 civic need some help

FYI the vtec d16y8 or si model in canada, (not sure what it is in the US ex maybe) for our gen is only 130hp the nonvtec is closer to 110, but the gearing in the trans are different which means they are pretty much neck and neck until 6500+ rpms. The B series engine is in the US SI and those are a different animal than the D series.
