Question New car started off with a dilemma..

Just got my first car, a 99 civic lx with only 70k for what i considered a steal of a price at $3750. Went to get the oil changed and the hood release handle snapped off. After a bit of research I found that this is a common problem and im torn between installing the latch or putting a set of aerocatch on.

Any suggestions?

Any worry with replacing the latch and having your hood fly up?

I apologize I'm a newb to the whole civic world I just wonder if its worth putting the same faulty part in again...

My hood release handle has snapped off as well its a common problem with the civics, I just use some pliers and grab the nub with that, there is a thread here somewhere that a guy used a T-handle tap and just cleaned some plastic off and used that as a replacement handle which worked well. My hood has never flown up, so long as the latch is good up front you have very little to worry about.

i attempted to use the tap handle but it yielded an overextended hood cable, i may consider the hood latch replacement if you've never had fear of a hood 'fly up'. I guess its just that fear riding down the road and being smacked in the windshield... or worse

the hood latch has a pretty strong latch mechanism I have never had any problems with it nor did my buddy whose release has been broken for 5 years now and he bags on that car like he stole it.

mines broke too and my hood doesnt pop open u gota have somthing manually lift up the hood when the latch is pulled,
most of the time i get my hood to open
but also gives thieves more time to try to open the hood when they try jacking the car

Haha i do the same thing with mine. My hood has never flown up because the little tab in the car has nothing to do with the actual latch on the hood. and getting a new one is a pain they cost like 10 dollars but you have to take the fender off and its just a pain. use some pliers and save your money and it costs about 100 to have someone put it in for you
