civic ex questions

ok well i just bought a wrecked 1998 civic ex auto off a friend of mine for $500 with only 150k and brand new timming belt water pump and tires i did at my shop. Ok well im new to the civic world i have had a few rx7 but i think its time for a civic. so the car has a sohc vtec motor and i wanted to know could i just put a dohc vtec head on it or would it just be better to get a whole si dohc vtec motor. also what is a good site to buy aftermarket parts from. also what series civic is it. if i do a motor swap what would be the best but for power and price

Re: civic ex questions

It's an EJ8, one of the best Civics Honda has ever built in many people's opinions.

Putting a B series head on a D series block isn't possible, but the options for swaps are almost endless. You could go with any K, H or B easily; orderer from most expensive to least. The most affordable would likely be a b18 swap, that would also offer you the most options for after-marker build up. You could also go with a D series build, I have three friends with 500+hp D's.

Re: civic ex questions

Car was wrecked steve lol, read brother. Anyhow for a bang vs buck I would go with b series engine as its most likely going to end up being cheaper in the end and the d series does not have an ideal rod to stroke ratio. You can build them up but why bother when its going to just run more money in the long run. I have a 98 dx as well with the nonvtec motor and I am far from impressed with the power even though it seems I can keep pace with any si with the vtec (my buddy has same year with vtec and similar mods to mine and I manage to stay with him no prob on the highways) Its only like 20hp diff from vtec to nonvtec.
