hey everyone i might go see a used 1997 civic cx hatch back today that's for sale but i was wondering if their are any common problems with these cars year or model that i should look for.

they will have the same problems a 97 coupe would have. ask about the timing belt, if hoses have been changed and spark plugs, and about the cv axles and things.

I just bought a 99 but essentially the same car.

Make sure the climate control works properly. Mine doesn't. I guess it's most common that the heater blower resistor goes. It's an easy fix. That wasn't the problem with mine though. It's the switch. You have to tear apart the dash to get at it. Not as easy.

Other then that how many miles does it have on it?

100k miles should check timing belt, H2O pump, clutch, head gasket.

get the v/n # and either do carfax, or call Honda for recalls/work that has been done.

thanks guys for the info, but the car ended up being a POS. the mileage was much more than they told me on the phone, they told me just over 100,000 but it ended up having 200,000, the front end was all out of line, and the paint was pretty much done, not to mention i heared water splashing in the rear of the car when you turn. that freaking dealer was a joke. the salesman was full of BS telling me that the car was so good that it was all clean and crap. i was trying to not laugh because the car was beat to hell, literally. the dash was almost all in pieces from cracks and from someone trying to steal the stereo. they were asking $3,000 what a joke right. also i forgot to mention that they photoshoped the car to make it look better in the photos. a message to everyone don't go to the import connection auto sales in Ontario CA they are full of BS.

im now only planing to buy from private sellers because dealers are just scam artiest. so any ways i found another 97 cx hatch on auto trader today and was wondering what you guys think. i will post some photos. the guy lives in the same town as me. he is asking $3,900. he states that it has 122,000 miles, it is manual, and has AC. the only problem i see with it is that it appears to have a big hole on the front bumper which i don't know how it could have happened. maybe you guys can tell? what do you guys think? what should i offer him for it if it runs good and everything is in order? oh and i live in So Cal so prices might be a little higher than the rest of the states so keep that in mind when commenting.
