tune up cost?

Hey my car is in the shop now because it wouldn't start. They say I just need a major tune up. Ignition coil, plugs, wires, fuel filter, rotor, etc. How much should this cost?

Re: tune up cost?

^ agreed, most of that stuff you can grab at advanced auto for ~100$. since your car is already at the shop i would probably let them do the labor, especially if you don't have a heated garage..working on your car in the cold freakin sucks lol. to do all of that stuff would probably take around 2 hours.. and the guys downtown charge 75$ an hour, so figure no more than 300$.

Re: tune up cost?

I could see it easily being $400-500 where I live, but basically everything is simple enough that anyone could do it with just a few basic tools.

Re: tune up cost?

I think you are going to get screwed.

1- you obviously have no idea about your car and sound like you'll just pay them to fix whatever they say is broken.
2- those parts are cheap to fix
3- an ignition coils going bad is pretty rare if you have the coil-on-plug style the 7th gens+ have, but with a 6th gen do they even have ignition coils- wouldnt just the whole dizzy need to be replaced?
4- bad rotors dont prevent your car from starting.

All of this would cost way more than 200 if they use honda parts.

Re: tune up cost?

i had a friend who had oil leak on the side of the engine and from the bottom it seem like it was leaking from inside of the timming belt cover
the shop wasnt to lift up the engine and look around
by all means they r talking about big labor.
so i look around the engine and saw oil coming from the valve cover.
we went ahead and replace the valve cover gasket cost us 15 bucks
and then no more oil leak. so you know dont get rip off just cuz they think ur a noob
doesnt mean they can rob u

Re: tune up cost?

I'm also just going to throw this out there, I've never heard of doing a tune-up because the car won't start. It may be in need of a tune-up, but there must be something more specific causing the problem and they should be able to pin point that for you.

Re: tune up cost?

they said it was the ignition coil. They said that there was signs of arching and that was why it wouldn't start. I trust my shop very much. They haven't screwed us yet.
