Modify 98 Civic Door Lock
Modify 98 Civic Door Lock
Hello,
I am a proud owner of a 1998 Honda Civic DX. It has manual locks and windows. With these manual locks the drivers side door will not lick when you get out of the car, unless you use the key. Is there a way to modify this lock so that it can be locked inside the car before you get out (just by pressing the switch). I guess Honda has a safety feature that will nto allow you to do that. If it is possible can someone let me know how to do it. Thanks!

Standard Honda safety feature. It's so you don't lock yourself out of the car. If you pull the inside handle it will lock.
I've been doing it like this for 20 years:

Re: Modify 98 Civic Door Lock
you can also pull the outside handle. and that "safety feature" locked me out of the car before. how ironic lol. i had started the car with the driver door open, the car auto locked the doors but the driver side safety didnt lock (well it shouldnt have). what i didnt see was the lock went down halfway and when i shut the door it locked down completely. so car was running with keys in it. i was so pissed after that i cut the auto lock wire and unplugged the lock switch. the doors NEVER lock on their own again unless i force it manually.
