Damn it! Help?

Its been some time since I've been here to ask for help but it seems I'm screwed!

1997 Honda Civic EX 154k Miles.

The car has been running great up until two weeks ago, its seems like everything is just going to ****. My cv axel is crapping out and I have a lower pan seal leak, so Ive been losing oil. I dont have cash to get the problems taken care of right away so I've been adding oil when I need to. I went out of town for a week and left my wife with the keys and she didnt maintain the car.
I get back into town and notice there is no oil in the car and now the engine has a knock. Like I said I dont have much money right now, so I filled up the oil and the knock seemed to get faint after that. today i went in to pick her up from work and when I pulled into the parking lot the engine made a grinding noise, similar to someone who is grinding the gears trying to shift, then the engine started making a thumping noise. Instantly I parked and popped the Hood, Coolant was everywhere. Idk The car is loosing RPMs like crazy and idles at 400, doesnt die just shutters really hard.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Re: Damn it! Help?

i hate to say it but running the engine on low oil prolly ruined it. does it still drive? if so just go easy on it and add coolant. try and drive it around while you look for a different car. with so many problems, i dont think its worth fixing it up with a new engine.

Re: Damn it! Help?

I was pretty sure that was the answer I was gonna get.
Fortunately it does still drive I hate to give up the car but I guess its time.
Due to a growing family I dont think a Honda will be in my future.

Re: Damn it! Help?

Our civic blew the engine last year, blew a hole right through the block, the previous owner must have never changed the oil or anything, right about the mileage yours is out, we put in a new engine, picked up one for 550 bucks, I think they sell them on craigslist and ebay, the same people they're imports from Japan with (they say) 40-60,000 miles on. I don't know how accurate that is but we've not had problems really since, whole thing with the work to put in cost under 1000 dollars

If the rest of your car has gone to **** it might not be worth it, but if your like me and had just had a bunch of stuff done like new tires and such, it might be worth it.

Re: Damn it! Help?

That engine can run very low on oil, without causing major internal damage quickly. I have a friend who didn't change or check her oil for two years and it still runs perfect, as hard to believe as that is.

New engines are so inexpensive for your car, I would swap in a JDM import in. That will solve all your engine problems, and leave you with just the CV joint to fix for significantly less than the cost buying a comparable vehicle. If you were to sell the car as is, I doubt you would get more than $500. If you do the $1200 worth of repairs however, its at least a $3000 dollar if everything is in good shape. Good luck man.

Re: Damn it! Help?

It's cheaper to replace the engine then it is to buy a new car. Unless your other issues are that costly that it just makes no sense to fix it.

Re: Damn it! Help?

having a new engine in is like having a new car all over
that if ur car shape is in good condition
nothing better than to have a healthy engine
