1998 hx shakes @ 1500 rpm
1998 hx shakes @ 1500 rpm
I have a 1998 hx with 130,000 miles that shakes when the engine speed is at 1500 rpms. It doesn't matter if the car is idling, in gear, accelerating, or decelerating; if the engine is moving at 1500, the whole car shakes fairly violently. It feels smooth at all other engine speeds.
It's been this way for +2000 miles, and hasn't been getting any worse. The car drives fine, it accelerates right through the vibration without a problem, but it's annoying and I'd like to stop it.
More info: The check engine light is also on, but it reads a catalytic converter code, and I don't think it's related. Also, everything in the car is stock.
Any ideas?

Mine does this too but im not sure at what rpm since there is no gauge in the dx but its when im idling. when im accelerating its smooth as can be. the only difference is my check engine light isnt on. i want this to stop. now. i have put a **** ton of money into this car just to get it in pristine condition and this is the only thing making it not where i want it to be
Re: 1998 hx shakes @ 1500 rpm
I took off the heat shield and sure enough, there's a crack in the exhaust manifold. It's small, maybe 1 inch long, and no where near the o2 sensor. Should I assume that this is the reason the cel was on? Can I replace the exhaust manifold alone, or am I going to need to replace the o2 sensor/catalytic converter with it? How risky is it to replace the manifold with a used one from the salvage yard?
Thanks
Thanks

You don't have to replace the O2 sensor.
Salvage yards won't sell you a used cat as it's against federal law for anybody to sell a used cat.
