im about to have a 98 hb ek with a d15 vtec swap

hey guys. I'm new to this forum but I've been reading alot of threads and have heard some pretty useful stuff. Now I have a question and hope that you guys can help. On Friday my 98 hb with d15 vtec swap will be delivered. It use to be auto but with the swap he made it a manual. He is also gonna be giving me a b series motor with it. Now my question to you is how hard is the swap gonna be to do since a swap has already been done and what do you think I will need. I'm thinking about boost too on either engine. So any advice on any of this would be greatly appreciated.

And I will post the pics as soon as it is delivered so that you guys can see the progress as progress is made haha

well the swap is pretty painless since the 6th gen si models have b series engines in them. the only real major thing you will need is a b series tranny and you should be just about good to go. you can find trannys relatively cheap about 750 for the b series at least thats how much at the junk yards where i live in NE ohio. so best of luck and let us know how it comes

thanks for the reply and i will. its probably gonna be awhile as i have to replenish my funds after the purchase of the car so it will be mostly be body work at first. but im trying to sell my eclipse in order to get the swap done. Seeing as how it might be awhile what are some options for getting some power out of the d15?

Honestly not really these things are pretty much stronger tractor engines lol. There are definitely some things you can do but it's really not worth the money in a d series engine. They aren't made for power just to get you around so it's best to kist save up for the b series. Also you can sell your d series engine for about 500 if in good shape and the tranny for about 300. The tranny should be easiest to sell because d series Trannys bolt up to any other d series engine

ok. well its not so much that i have to save up for the motor as it is i have to save up for the actual swap. and still have alot of research to do to figure out how to do that. in the mean time i was looking to maybe run low boost on the d series and try to get around 200hp. i mean i found a cheap kit around 700.

Yeah I wouldn't try and boost them to that much that's not what they're made for. If your doing that you should probably upgrade the pistons ad camshaft which is slot of money to do unless you do it yourself. And are you doing the swap yourself or having someone else doing it?

Re: im about to have a 98 hb ek with a d15 vtec swap

i heard that upgrading the cams wasnt that hard you just have to re-time it after your done. And i read alot about the viatra cams but still dont have a solid opinion on them yet due to the slapping during cold starts and such. As far as the swap im gonna try to do it myself as a learning experience. do any of you guys know where i could find a post about what im going to need? cuz i feel like it already having the swap in it is going to make things more complicated.

side note I wont be getting it unitl sunday morning now but he delivering it and the b series motor

Re: im about to have a 98 hb ek with a d15 vtec swap

ok well i got the car today and it needs alot of work. where to begin??? First off who ever did the d15 swap into the car didnt think that he had to change the wiring harness so can anyone tell me which one will work on the d15b vtec engine. Secondly it was a auto to begin with and the guy didnt do that right so now i have to figure out how to bypass the park sensor so it will start. Next he gave me the b18 motor with tranny with it should i even bother trying to fix the afore mentioned problems or just cut to the swap? if so how much is this going to run me? any help will be appreciated as i have a week to get this car running

go for the swap. if you have all the parts your looking at 800 to 1000 for the swap

Re: im about to have a 98 hb ek with a d15 vtec swap

what are all the parts exactly? ive been researching and not to much avail. i think im going to need a new wire harness, new ecu, shift linkage? (whatever that is), this part ive heard both: that i could use the stock motor mounts and that i couldnt use them so which is correct. in addition to that since the motor has already been swap do you think i will have to replace the axles and all that? and thanks for the help

I dont know much about it seeing ive never done the swap but those are generally the normal things you will need. go to some local custom shops and see if there is anyone that would be able to give you a hand with the swap

Re: im about to have a 98 hb ek with a d15 vtec swap

does anyone know whether or not i will still need new axles since a swap has already been done. im trying to get everything i need to get this swap done and i think thats the only part left....i have b18a1 motor and ls tranny, hydro to cable clutch converter (unless someone knows a better way to do this), fuel rail, intake manifold, i was told i can use the stock mounts, p75 ecu, need a distributor, and i think that should cover everything??? am i right if so im going to go ahead and pull the old motor out and get ready for the swap

Re: im about to have a 98 hb ek with a d15 vtec swap

ok so after doing alot of research i have come to the conclusion that im confused as $#!+. i have a 97 ek hatch with the d15 in it and i have a b18a1 motor but its just the motor and tranny nothing else so what all do i need and what can i use from the d15 such as wiring harness and what not??? or would it be easier to just rip out the d series harness ecu and all and just drop in the b with everything new. I think i have a hydro tranny, will this work on the motor or do i have to get a conversion kit? ive heard so many things that contradict one another i just dont know anymore.

ok thanks that really cleared alot of things up and only have one question left and that is...if i change the ecu and get the correct wiring harness will everything hook right up or will i run into problems with the interior wiring? thanks and due to everyones help this swap should be done by next week depending on how long it takes for all the parts to arrive. then its on to the next project of boosting it lol

Talk with hasports, they make wirings and engine mounts among others for swaps.

They should know for sure
