So, here's an interesting one...

Hello, everyone!

I apologize in advance due to the length of this post.. but, I want to get everything out there.

I have recently come across a car, a 99 Civic EX. This particular car has been through hell and back (and, possibly back to hell again..?)

A friend of mine bought this car as new. He proceeded to go crazy on it, complete with a Jackson supercharger setup and yadda yadda. After a while, he became bored with it and sold the entire built motor / setup. He then swapped in a b16a2. He ran around with this until he hydrolocked the motor. Through a stroke of luck, insurance covered it. A new b16a2 was swapped in by a local dealership and the car worked great.

He attempted getting an emissions test done, which here in Missouri, requires an obd plug-in test. When they plugged the diagnostic into the car, it died. He had the car towed away and it has sat for three years.

Here we are in 2010. He wants the car gone. We talked for a while and I am going to take it off his hands for him.

Now, my concerns:

Obviously, alot of stuff is going to need to be replaced on this car. The tires, hoses, etc are no good at all. I know I'm going to need to flush the gas tank, change oil, plugs, etc.

Can you guys think of anything else I'm going to need to do? I want this car to potentially be a fun car for me to tool around on the weekends with. I've always admired Honda motors (I'm a former K-series owner, too!)

I appreciate any / all feedback on this. Thanks!

I think you've pretty much covered all the stuff your going to need/want to replace. I guess you wont know what else you might need untill it doesnt start (hopefully you dont have that problem) If it doesnt start I would come back here and write up whats happening with the car. Of coarse change the oil but along with that flush the radiator and change the tranny fluid so you know when it was changed ( go with redline ) Another is check the timing belt on the car and if it needs changed go to Napa and spend 125 dollars on a timing belt, tensioner, and water pump kit. Changing the water pump is kind've of pain in the butt but there are plenty of write ups on the web to get it done. Just bing it or google water pump change for your engine (b16).
