I've noticed my civic goes through phases where if you floor the gas pedal it will either downshift and accelerate really quickly and the acceleration will be pretty obvious, or it will just slow and slugglishy accelerate and refuse to downshift.

The odd thing is I feel it more in the pedal than anything, recently my pedal has transformed back to being very "loose" persay and is easy to downshift, other times it feels as if i'm slamming the pedal and its jamming up against a brick and refuses to go all the way down.

Am I just hallucinating or does this actually happen? I don't feel like anything is wrong with the car, but i'm so curious to know WHY it happens.

I'm not an A/T expert but that sounds to me like a tranny slipping...

Your TPS is what tells the auto tranny to downshift. If it is binding that could cause your problem. Open and close the throttle by hand and see if it is stiff to open. Also check to see that your throttle cable is not binding.
