96 d16y8 with no set screw on dis rotor?

Trying to solve a misfire issue with a 96 civic ex d16y8 sohc (vtec?) auto with 105k before It gets sold. Dizzy cap and rotor look to be in bad shape with corrosion build up on tabs. With cap removed and rotor in sight I have turned it many rotations and there is no set screw, i promise you. And the plastic cover that covers the coil assembly is held on by the rotor, nothing else holding it on, it just sits there loosely, is that normal? Stumped.... Any help?

Also, just to throw this out there, the car runs great until it warms up, well actually it doesn't warm up (think the thermo is stuck open) but after about 15 mins of driving then it misses and sounds like a Subaru. Found a crack in the #4 lower exhaust mani, that is getting fixed shortly and is already off.

Main question is about the rotor tho.. I can get a video if i need but i swear, there is no set screw or a place for it, I can see the whole lower rotor shaft in every position and there's nothing there. Thanks in advance

Re: 96 d16y8 with no set screw on dis rotor?

Well I got the rotor off. For anyone else with this issue, I took a medium sized flat screw driver and got up under the outer flange and put pressure on it, then grabbed it with my left hand and a kung fu grip and started to wiggle with force in all directions. It slowly came off. Inside where there would normally be a set screw was a metal retainer clip that was holding it on there. BTW, all the replacement ones I have found at local auto parts stores have are the set screw type... in which they don't come with the screw, I'll have to find one to match. Now onward to test the coil......update soon.

Re: 96 d16y8 with no set screw on dis rotor?

Wondering if anyone has a diagram of the distributor for a 1996 ex d16y8 and test procedures for the coil/ignitor. I've found a few write ups on here but none of them match my distributor and some of the wires are different colors than stated in those posts so that doesn't quite help me do any testing. Would probably help if my $3 voltage/ohm tester from harbor freight actually worked, but I'm thinking it doesn't, can't even get a voltage reading off the battery.
