Strange noise around 2500-3500rpms
Strange noise around 2500-3500rpms
Car is a 2000 Si. I'm thinking this may have something to do with the weather since it's getting cold and that's when the noise started. If I'm just driving and I let the engine rev in the posted RPM range, I hear this weird noise and it doesn't always do it. It will hit between 2500-3500 RPMS and then disappear after a second or 2. It seems that it may be metallic because I can hear rattling. My resonator is going and the noise itself seems to be coming from the passenger side. Any ideas?

i have the same exact problem, and got worse when the cold weather hit. when i revved the engine with the hood open (using the throttle body lever), it sounded like it was coming from inside the engine. it drives okay so i havent been too worried, only thing i can think of is maybe needs a valve adjustment.

Thank you, Gearbox. This isn't going to cause any damage is it? I have the funds, but no time as of yet. Do you know how much this would run me? I've done brakes, drained the clutch fluid, changed the oil, tranny fluid, tune up and tires. But I don't think I have the skill set to do this. And I just got the timing belt done too. I just don't wanna kill this car.

no its fine, and im just guessing its that. usually dealer charges $150 for adjusting the valves. and that may or may not fix it. so long as the engine runs okay, i wouldnt worry.
Re: Strange noise around 2500-3500rpms
Sorry for the late response. My car still runs like the day I got it (very well). VTEC still engages the same with no issues. I'm still pointing more towards the exhaust at the moment, but we'll see what happens once the weather gets back on the warm side.
Re: Strange noise around 2500-3500rpms
Turns out it was the exhaust manifold cover. It's cracked in one area. I started my car up one day and decided to pop the hood. Heard the noise. Very very low, but it sounded just like the one when I drive. Noticed the crack and pressed to to separated pieces together and the noise vanished. So now I wanna know. Cheap aftermarket replacement? Leave it alone? Take it to a shop? OEM replacement is about 70 bucks, which I don't wanna shell out for this.

I hit eBay up last night with one result. I needed to hold off though because I'm going to take it to the shop and see if they can fix it. If not, I'll definitely check again. Thanks.
