New to forum. Problem with stuck glovebox.

Hello. Great forum here! It's great to see so many other people who enjoy these cars as much as I do.

I have a 98 Civic DX which has been a champ over the years. About a week ago without any warning, the glove box suddenly wouldn't open. Since it's a DX the glovebox doesn't have a lock.
When I attempt to open it, the latch won't budge and there is no give at all. I've tried banging on it, pressing on it and opening, but nothing works.
Unfortunately, I left my ipod and registration in there, so I'm becoming a little desperate to get in there. Is it possible to remove the glovebox unit by some other method?

Thanks for helping out!

Re: New to forum. Problem with stuck glovebox.

there should be two screws with plastic hinges near the bottom of the box, to allow it to normally pivot open. if you take these out, you should be able to reach in enough to get your stuff out. i dont know how youre gonna get the latch open tho...just keep playing with it and maybe you will get lucky and it will unstick.

Re: New to forum. Problem with stuck glovebox.

Thanks for the quick response! I'll give it a shot.

I found this diagram online. Hopefully I'll be able to pivot the glove box enough so I can reach the contents.

I forgot to mention that the ipod is plugged in to an after-market adapter mounted in the glove box. I have a feeling that the ipod's cable is jammed in the latch mechanism somehow.

may have to try using a crowbar or screwdriver carefully to pry the box open. dont damage the dash tho, you can always buy a new glovebox if you kill the old one, but not the dash.

take a drill drill 4 holes, or 8( side by side) take a hack saw blade cut out a square get your stuff and then go to the wrecker and buy a new door.

Maybe park facing how a hill so everything is away from the door if you do decide to cut thru it.
