Neon License Plate Frame Install
Neon License Plate Frame Install
Hey guys !
Just got a neon license plate frame. Instructions were a piece of crap, so i searched the web and found an eHow article about it.
It says: "Pop the trunk and locate the tail light wires. Use the wire strippers to strip a part of the red wire down to bare wiring."
OK, where the heck are these "tail light wires" ?
Are they in the 1cm-thick black wire-thingy that runs along the trunk cover ? Do i just cut it open and wham-bam there's the red wire ?
And where do i route the license frame wires so that they do not show ?
Thanks for not mocking the n00b question.

well if you pull off those carpet pads on the side (inside the trunk), you will see the rear of the taillight. take out the parking light socket and there is your wiring. you may need to cut off the black loom covering to actually see the wires. and there should be some opening to get the neon wires inside thru the trim piece just above the plate spot.
Re: Neon License Plate Frame Install
I guess you're talking about the four wires that run into the light via a harness and are covered by a huge snake-like protector ?
One of the wires is half red half black, so i would just connect my wire to that ?
(btw, not my ride, i wish it was

Re: Neon License Plate Frame Install
if thats how your plate light looks, you can take off the two screws and slip the wire inside the hole leading to the trunk. it will get smashed a bit but should be fine with the plastic around it. then just run the wires down the trunk following the original wiring thats already there, and to the taillight. find the bulb for the park lights, and tap the neons to the + and - wires, usually red and black underneath the black cover. you prolly need to cut the cover, but be careful not to damage the wires.
but i just remembered, i dont think that will work cause when the trunk is open it will pull the cables. how about those hollow license plate bolts? i think that would be easiest. they usually have em at autozone, they are the led bolt lights and the actual bolt is hollow so you can run wires thru it.

Hey gearbox !
Thx for the reply.
Just got majorly flamed over here: http://honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2689579
I'm glad to see that not all forums are like this
So, I finally drilled a hole in back of where the plate mounts, so it's invisible. I routed my wires in there, perfect !
Now, I just need to hook up the red wire on the neon to the red one on my license plate light. Plus screw the black wire on my neon to the trunk body somewhere, to ground it. And that should be good !
Thanks for all your help !

Oh no. If you drilled a hole in your trunk and it's not water tight, you're going to have a very wet trunk when it rains. It doesn't matter how small the hole is nor how well you think the wire blocks it, water will get in there.
And I won't flame you but I don't like those license plate lights.

Re: Neon License Plate Frame Install
yeah hes right. a simple fix would be stick a small ball of that 3m windoweld stuff (flexible goo used to seal headlights) in the hole, or even a lil bit of silicone (messier and harder to remove later tho). make sure you paint the hole edges first and let it dry 24 hrs before sealing.
Hey guys !
My installation is completed, everything works mint.
Thanks to your tips, I successfully sealed up the hole, so as to make it watertight.
Thanks alot for all your help !

Re: Neon License Plate Frame Install
Why not get LED neon light strips and run them all around the seams... like the hood and trunk seams. And of course the doors... Just remember to make them green, red, and white. That way you look like a Christmas tree rollin' down the road
We want some pictures, pics never hurt !
Sometimes a stock car is the nicest car
