96 D16Y8 to B18B1 Swap

I have a 96 EX with a D16Y8 with almost 300,000 Miles on it. I would like more power out of my car, and want to start with a fresh engine. I'm saving for a B18B1 for a few reasons, One it's hella cheaper than a GSR motor, and it has more tourge than even the GSR engines but less HP. It's my everyday driver that I just want to make it quicker and more peppy. I'm looking to put just an intake, headers, exhaust, and maybe if the budget allows new rocker arms and new cams. Does anybody have any tips and advice that could help me on this project.

Re: 96 D16Y8 to B18B1 Swap

hmmm i put a gsr in my civic with a turbo i had the tranny converted from auto to manual its a every day driver, b18b are ok great with a turbo i have had no problems iam pushing morethen 450hp daily driven on the jdm gsr. the reason for the torque is that the compression is lower on the pistons thats why its great for turbos hmmm i would say yes anything is better then a d series motor

Re: 96 D16Y8 to B18B1 Swap

but if you are going all motor performance get a type r motor it s hella expendsive but fun in the long run gsr are ok in every direction you take it turbo or all motor.like i said ls motors are really good with turbos d16 or d15 is good for the junk yard or a foot stool. and in some states like goergia, yard decor some people re build their d motor motors a put 400- 500hp on them because they are light weight some many options but go b series its better AND DONT GO H22 OR H23 BECAUSE THEY ARE HEAVY AS HELL and they are only good for a straight line like drag LOTS OF MODS TO YOUR CIVIC TO GET IT TO FIT RIGHT k20 yeah very fast but real expendsive f22 just like the d16 and d15s

Wow this is really helpful. I was actually looking to swap my D16Y8 engine in my 2000 honda civic ex just wasnt to sure which B18C motor to get exactly. So i think when i finally do decide to get a new motor im going to turbo it for sure so i think i will go with the GSR vs the Type-R. Just want to make sure im getting the better motor for racing
Which website would you suggest buying a B18 motor from? I see there are many out there but dont want to get screwed because it is to good to be true.
